Depression

Trevor was 29 years old; he lived in a big house with his brother. He was alone because her wife had died three months ago. People saw him, and noticed that he was suffering of depression. Everybody who saw him can see that he was very sad, had loss of interest in activities that he did in he past, always talked about what happened with his wife the day she died and categorized himself as being a failure. He always looked tired, had memory problems and had frequent thoughts on suicide. Whenever he talked with the neighbors he was always saying that its fault his wife is dead and he wanted to go with her. Whenever his brother wanted them to go out fishing and hunting, Trevor always said no and that was what he liked to do. Also whenever he was alone with his brother he said that he wants to commit suicide and see his wife, when he said it he spoke very low and had sloe body movements. While was in that manner he always wanted to drink to forget his memories and also wanted to use drugs to forget what happen with his family. Also all of his ways of thinking and speaking he wanted to commit suicide. Trevor was hospitalized for depression since his wife past away in a car accident. The passing away of his wife kept him like that.

Anorexia Nervosa

Gladys was her name, she was 20 years old and all what she did was to talk about her size and shape. Gladys tells her friends that she’s very thin, but she wants to be thinner. She spends a lot of time talking about how fat she is, especially in her stomach and thighs. She only eats once a day and is careful not to eat any foods that might have fat in them. She constantly counts calories and fat grams in food. She did excessive exercising per day and her friends knew what is happening to her and tried to help her but she insists that she is fat. Even though she is very thin; but she doesn’t see it in that way. Because of what she was doing her friends advised her about the death issue if she doesn’t eat, but she didn’t care. She also will be going to suffer digestive problems since she didn’t eat much. She might probably have kidney damage. Gladys was suffering from anorexia since she had low self esteem and her family was going through a divorce at that time.

Bulimia

Melanie, a 2^nd former from Technical, loved parties especially when she discovered her own answer to weight control. After gulping down several pastries and cupcakes and an entire bag of chips she slipped into the bathroom and made herself throw up. It was the principle give and take between her inability to control her eating and her desire to lose weight. But after several months of eating a lot, followed by self induced vomiting, Melanie’s throat hurt constantly and her dentist urged her to brush more thoroughly because her teeth were in poor condition. Worse, she could neither stop her eating nor keep her food in her stomach after a normal meal. Her friends advised her to stop fasting but whenever she ate she had to vomit. She also drank a lot and liked to smoke. Melanie’s friends said for her to check a doctor because it looked like if she had depression and digestive problems that would affect her later on. Also her menstruation cycle was cut since she was fasting too much. Melanie was suffering form bulimia because all what she cared about was her weight and shape. Also Melanie’s sister was hospitalized for bulimia and a suicide attempt when Melanie was younger.

Muscular Dysmorphia

Alberto is a student from ITVET, O.Walk town. He is 19 years, and as he reaches home from 3:00 pm he starts to lift weight until 9:00 pm he finishes. No matter how much Alberto trains he never feels big enough. When his friends go to his house, they get really bored on seeing him doing his exercise and every time he goes and check himself in the mirror. Alberto only eats certain types of food, which don’t bring a lot of body fat. As I pass by his house I always see him straining himself to lift lot of weight. As time goes by Alberto will more than likely develop other health disorder such as bulimia since he only eats certain thing. Also he will fall in the temptation of using steroids and will cause him side effects that will damage his body. More than likely Alberto will definitely have a low self esteem. Alberto falls into this over exercising ladder when he was in high school. His classmates always teased him scrawny hands, short boy and negative names. He then saw the picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger and decided to lift weights until eventually he got obsessed with it that over exercised too much.

Self-injury

Elizabeth was a student from Technical High school. She had a lot of scars in her hand. My friend told me that Elizabeth always carried a blade to school. Also that she always reach to school with bruises and she claimed that she got it from accidents. One day she was sent to the office because she had many bruises. The principal called her parent and her mother said that dropped form her bicycle, even though she didn’t knew what her daughter had. Her friends saw that Elizabeth was cutting her self with the blade and just laughing at it. They told her something was wrong with her and to go and check the doctor. One of her male friends stated that she might have been suffering of self-injury. But she didn’t care; she said that she found pleasure in cutting herself. Her friends told her that she could be suffering later on with complications such as infection by cutting herself too much and not medicating. Also she might be thinking of suicide since she doesn’t feel the pain, and this could lead to life threatening cuts, broken bones and injury. Elizabeth found pleasure in cutting herself since her father had died and she wanted to punish herself for being a bad girl to her father and she could not cope with her emotions.
